Since you can be both ADMD (Attention Deficit Modeler Disorder) and OCD, I switched over for some railroad therapy this evening. I am sure many of you grew up with model trains. Well, HO Narrow Gauge trains are an exercise in achieving O Scale levels of detail on an N scale sized fleet. I would not be surprised if the term Rivet Counter originated there. I have been a fan for decades but my trip to see the DRGW Rotary OY in February really amped up my desire to complete and operate the kits I already owned. One of the last hurdles I had to clear was couplers. You see, unless your pockets are exceptionally deep, there is no "ready to run"; it's all kit, ala Carte, and I had to source not just couplers but the boxes to hold them.
The draft gear boxes to fit the couplers I bought arrived today, and having finished seal coating about 100 Bolt Action Miniatures earlier, I was ready for a change. Here, for a sense of scale, is One Coupler.
This is a kit of 4 pieces, requiring a separate assembly jig to prevent Madness:
Repeat 8 times. You need to modify each car individually to mount these because no two kit manufacturers do things the same; or to ward off any normal, same people. Or both. Oh. These actually open and close, like the full scale item.
Once complete, you'd hardly notice the hours involved in making this work.
But that's how I roll. Pun intended.
